The Opening of the Humanitarian Exhibition “Eminescu in Persian,” Signed by Iranian Artist Ardeshir Vahidi, at the Tailors’ Tower in Cluj-Napoca

In a cultural event of exceptional sensitivity, the Tailors’ Tower in Cluj-Napoca (35 Baba Novac Street) will host the Persian calligraphy and graphic art exhibition “Eminescu in Persian” opening on January 17.

The exhibition is signed by Iranian artist Ardeshir Vahidi, who will also perform a live Persian calligraphy demonstration during the event.

This artistic performance has a significant humanitarian component: Ardeshir Vahidi will reproduce works from the exhibition and create personalised calligraphies of visitors’ names using quotes from Mihai Eminescu and Omar Khayyam.

The donations collected through this initiative will be used to support the care of patients at the “Saint Nectarios” Palliative Care Center in Cluj-Napoca.

The exhibition, showcasing 19 works, marks Ardeshir Vahidi’s return after 25 years of silence and is organised to celebrate the birthday of Romania’s national poet, Mihai Eminescu. Through his art, Ardeshir Vahidi explores the universality of Eminescu’s work and its cultural intersections with Persian poetry and literature, particularly the works of the celebrated poet Omar Khayyam.

In Ardeshir Vahidi’s pieces, Eminescu’s verses are transformed into artworks with Persian calligraphy’s unique lines and ornaments. The exhibition also features graphic works with vibrant colours, subtle contrasts, and intricate details and symbols.

Complex and innovative in its perspective, the exhibition serves as a bridge between cultures: Romanian culture, represented through the verses of its greatest poet, and Persian culture, one of the world’s great civilisations, whose millennia-old traditions continue to inspire contemporary.

The artist considers this exhibition a cultural manifesto:

“Eminescu in Persian is a call to rediscover spiritual values and beauty that transcends time and space—a plea to save poetry and culture in an era where they risk being lost in the ashes of materialism.”

The opening event will include a musical moment featuring violin and cello performed by a student of the “Gheorghe Dima” National Academy of Music in Cluj-Napoca and a poetic moment presented by the exhibition’s author.
